Entering ‘tinnitus’ as a search term on the internet will bring you a choice of thousands of websites. Some are excellently written and organised, many are personal opinions written by individuals, some are commercial bodies offering ‘cures’ of various kinds, and a few may even be harmful.

If you are just beginning to learn about tinnitus, the best advice is to first go to the established national tinnitus associations. These are generally well written and authoritative, and many have professional medical tinnitus advisers.

The British Tinnitus Association (BTA) is one of the best. The BTA website offers a great deal of advice and information to anyone concerned about tinnitus.

The Quest for Quiet is a report of research carried out by Dr Pat Naughton in 2003 and 2004. Dr Naughton undertook research into how people in Ireland experienced tinnitus, what treatments or supports they availed of, and how they managed the tinnitus. This was the first major tinnitus-related research in Ireland. It was funded by the National Disability Authority and was launched in Cork by the Minister for Health and Children, Micheál Martin T.D. You can read the report here.
