Finance Assistant (Part-Time, Fixed Term 6 months)
Hours: 14 hours per week (2 days or 3 mornings )
Location: In Cork Deaf Association office base on MacCurtain Street, Cork
Salary: €18 per hour (HSE Grade IV Clerical scale)
We are a HSE-funded charity providing vital services to the community. We now seeking a Finance Assistant to provide support to our Finance Manager.
The successful candidate will assist with core bookkeeping and finance processes, including payroll, reconciliations, bank lodgments, and income/expenditure monitoring.
This is a part-time, fixed-term post for 6 months.
Essential
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in bookkeeping, finance administration, or similar
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or finance software packages
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage confidential information appropriately
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
- Experience in the charity or voluntary sector
- Knowledge of payroll systems and related compliance
- Familiarity with charity governance and financial reporting requirements

Job Description – Finance Assistant
Reports to: Finance Manager
Hours: 14 hours per week (2 days or 3 mornings)
Contract: 6 months, fixed term
Location: Cork Deaf Association, MacCurtain Street, Cork
Purpose of Role
To provide day-to-day financial and administrative support to the Finance Manager, ensuring accurate bookkeeping and smooth operation of the charity’s finance systems.
Key Duties
- Support payroll & HR administration
- Process invoices, receipts, and payments
- Maintain purchase and sales records
- Support reconciliation of bank accounts, credit cards and petty cash
- Prepare bank lodgements and monitor income/expenditure
- Assist with preparing monthly pension returns
- Assist with monthly management accounts and year-end preparation
- Maintain accurate records and files in line with charity finance policies
- Ensure procurement procedures are followed and PO’s matched to invoices
- Cash counting and record keeping of fundraising income
- Assist with preparing regulatory financial reporting for grants
- Using online banking systems to process payments and transfers
- Liaise with staff, suppliers, and stakeholders as required
- Undertake other finance and compliance related tasks as assigned by the Finance Manager
