IRISH SIGN LANGUAGE JOB VACANCY WITH ST. COLUMBA’S SCHOOL IN CORK
POST DETAILS
Temporary full time position available in the Deaf Facility of St
Columba’s GNS with Facility for Deaf Children. The role description
pertaining to this position is unique to this appointment. The main role
of the person appointed will be to support communication between
Teacher and Pupil throughout the school day, both within the classroom
and for all activities pertaining to the particular pupil.
The successful candidate will be required to translate English into Irish Sign Language and vice versa, at the highest level of accuracy and fluency in both English and ISL. To this end applicants should have:
-Excellent level of communication skills in English and ISL (level 8 graduate competency in ISL preferable but not essential),
-An interest in and an enthusiasm for working with children, -An
interest and willingness to provide additional support to the individual
pupil in question where necessary,
-An interest and willingness to
support communication between the teacher and other pupils of the class
in general, -An ability and willingness to work in collaboration with
other members of the school community as a team.
This position will be reviewed and renewed by the Department and Skills on an annual basis at the end of the school year (or when the child leaves school).
